Azienda Agricola Grimoli Montaio
The family farmhouse Grimoli Montaio has been scrupulously and passionately following organic farming since the early 2000. The production has been certified by the official Italian Organic Certifier “Suolo e Salute” for 15 years.
The farmhouse is located underneath Montaio Castle, at the doors of Chianti, in the village of Grimoli, 30 kms away from Arezzo, Siena and Florence, best known area as the Excellence region for wine and olive oil.
The property extends for about 7 hectares at about 350 m.a.s.l. high and consists of olive-groves, vineyards, crop-plants, orchards and a wood, producing wine and extra virgin olive oil.
The products are genuine and of high-quality, because of the use of ancient, local and traditional working processes (non-intensive/industrial) and of a unique knowledge which represents an over time heritage.
Our wines
Our rigorously organic wines are:
“il Conte di Grimoli” IGT (regional geographical indication) and “La Contessa di Grimoli” DOCG (controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin)
Wine IGT – “Conte di Grimoli”
Produced and bottled by the Grimoli Montaio Estate
Wine made from Sangiovese with an important percentage of Merlot.
Hand-picked grapes, in boxes, within an hour from the grapes harvest, fermentation of must inside stainless steel vats.
Handmade crushing in touch with the skins, before beginning the ageing in French oak Tonneaux.
This wine has a respectable alcohol content and has distinct currant aromas – one of the typical fruity flavours of Merlot – plums and sour cherry. The second taste allows the perception of bluberry and violet, followed by typical flavours coming from the maceration in Tonneaux, like vanilla, tobacco, cocoa and cinnamon. This wine is ideally served with savoury Tuscan dishes, like grilled and roasted meat.

Extra virgin olive oil
Extra virgin olive oil Grimoli Montaio
Our organic extra virgin olive oil is produced only with olives cultivated in our land.
The varieties of cultivars in our estate are: 35% moraiolo, 40% frantoio, 25% leccino.
Our olive oil tends to green with golden sheens, with fruity aromas and a slight hint of artichoke at the final taste.
It’s characterized by a delicate, balanced and not very spicy aroma, which is the most appreciated quality.
The limit of acidity for extra virgin olive oil is 0,8% and ours has its free fatty acid content below 0,2%.
Olives are hand-picked with the help of electro-shaking machines over the oldest treetops.
The freshly harvested olives are carried off to the mill and first/cold-pressed, in order to keep their fragrances and organoleptic properties as unaltered as possible.
Following this natural process, the oil maintains its nutritional components invariable and improves the release of its beneficial compounds to our organism, both for the cardiovascular and for the hepato-biliary systems, compared to other oils subjected to chemical transformations.
